Office of The President, Commander-in-Chief Of The Armed Forces
As Nigerians approach President Muhammadu Buhari’s first hundred days in office, the Nigeria’s Presidency is bent on denying all the campaign promises made by the President prior to his assumption of office.

For those who might have forgotten, here’s the first section of the promises by the President below and the link provided provides the complete campaign promises by the APC led government of Buhari.

An Excerpt of President Buhari's Promises Within In First Hundred Days In Office;
  • Publicly declare my assets and liabilities and encourage my political appointees to also publicly declare their assets and liabilities.
  • Affirm that our strategy for tackling corruption will not only focus on punishment. Rather, it will also provide incentives for disclosure and transparency.
  • Show personal leadership in the war against corruption and also hold all the people who work with me to account.
  • Inaugurate the National Council on Procurement as stipulated in the Procurement Act so that the Federal Executive Council, which has been turned to a weekly session of contract bazaar, will concentrate on its principal function of policy making.
  • Review and implement audit recommendations by Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).
  • Work with the National Assembly towards the immediate enactment of a Whistle Blower Act.
  • Work with the National Assembly to strengthen ICPC and EFCC by guaranteeing institutional autonomy including financial and prosecutorial independence and security of tenure of officials.
  • Make the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) an autonomous and operational agency.
  • Encourage proactive disclosure of information by government institutions in the spirit of the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Ensure all MDAs regularly comply with their accountability responsibilities to Nigerians through the National Assembly.
  • Work with the leadership of the National Assembly to cut down the cost of governance.
  • Present a national anti-corruption Strategy.
In an elaborate article written by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, he said the President never promised to achieve the 100 things he intends to do in 100 days, tagged ‘My Covenant With Nigerians’.

This is not the first time the Presidency will be denying promises made by President Buhari, Femi Adesina, also a spokesman of the President had in an exclusive interview with Kayode Ogundamisi denied Buhari ever promised to declare his assets.

Adesina said Buhari never promised to declare his assets , adding that it was actually the party that made such a promise which brings to question the sincerity of the Buhari led administration.

Garba Shehu wrote, “There is a certain document tagged “One Hundred Things Buhari Will Do in 100 Days” and the other, “My Covenant With Nigerians.” Both pamphlets bore the authorized party logo but as the Director of Media and Communications in that campaign, I did not fund or authorize any of those. I can equally bet my last Kobo that Candidate Buhari did not see or authorize those publications.

In acknowledging Buhari’s inability to keep to the elaborate campaign promises, Shehu noted that there are many out there who say that the performance of a president and his government in terms success or failure cannot be judged in 100 days and I agree with them.

Garba Shehu's Socialmedia Post
He continued “In the course of electioneering, the presidential campaign had so many centers of public communication which, for whatever reason were on the loose".

“As a consequence of these publications, expectations have been raised unreasonably, that as President, Muhammadu Buhari will wave his hand and all the problems that the country faces- insecurity, corruption, unemployment, poor infrastructure would go away".

The Presidential spokesman, Mr Shehu said President Buhari has shown that his government is different. “He wants to look at each case on its own merit and it is clear by now that he is not ready to surrender the country to burnt out politicians. “

While unveiling the Covenant during the campaign, President Gen. Mohammadu Buhari was quoted to have stated ;
“I know however, that what we require to revamp our economy and rebuild our country is our ability to galvanize all our citizens to believe once again in their government, in their country and especially, to believe in themselves,” he said, adding that that would happen only if the trust and belief that the people used to have in the government and in the Nigerian nation can be rebuilt.
This now begs the question, how can the Nigerian public believe in a government that has since denied all the lofty promises made to win the election? How can the people trust a government that favors a certain region of the country and vilifies the other? How can the nation be built with untruths and a pontificating government that weaponizes the power of the Presidency? Is the President and his henchmen playing the "Nigerian Prince" scam on Nigerians? Were there any attempt to correct, structure or control the media frenzy on these miraculous promises and the magic wand theory cum the Messianic stance of the General during the campaign? Was there any disclaimer before the elections on the Covenant? Time will tell as we approach 100 days of this government with nothing to show for it against the loud lofty promises. #100DaysCometh
